The Pampas Pastry Company, a family run business started in Victoria back in 1934. Its earliest products were slabs of chilled pastry delivered by motorcycle to delicatessens. This led to pre-packed 375g blocks of puff and shortcrust pastry being sold to grocers and supermarkets as both chilled and frozen products.
Fridges with adequate freezers and the establishment of a frozen distribution system led to massive increases in consumption of frozen food. By the late 1970’s, Pampas had developed pre-rolled pastry sheets.
Given the need for national distribution, the business was sold to the Quaker Oats Company. Quaker developed the business heavily during the early 1980’s to establish Pampas as a national brand. New products were introduced including tart cases, croissants, wholemeal sheets and a refrigerated fillo pastry product under the Athena name. At this time, the “ready rolled” products took over dominance from the block products.
Goodman Fielder acquired Pampas in January 1988 and continue to deliver high quality innovative products. The extensive range of Pampas pastry products now include Puff, Shortcrust, Fillo, Tart Cases, Sweet and Savoury Flans and Asian pastry.
Today, Pampas is recognised as Australia's leading and trusted pastry brand, holding over 70% share of the frozen pastry market. It continues to help Australians transform everyday ingredients into exciting new meals that the whole family will love.
